The 2023-24 Big Bash League season has been reduced from 56 games to 40 games following a lot of criticism about the length of the season. Meaning instead of each team playing 14 regular season games (one home and one away for each team), teams will only play 10 games this year, meaning only a double with three other teams Contest.
The format of the finals has also been adjusted, with only four finals this season compared to the previous five. This means that only the top four teams can advance to the knockout rounds, and from the 2019-20 season to the 2022-23 season, the teams are all top five.
