On February 4, 2023, at Perth Stadium, Perth Scorchers defeated Brisbane Heat by five wickets to win their fifth BBL championship. The Perth Scorchers won the BBL for the seasons 2022–2023. 

The Perth Scorchers have played in seven finals and won four championships prior to the BBL 2022–23 final. They had a good chance of winning the Perth Stadium final on Saturday against Jimmy Pierson’s Brisbane Heat.

The Scorchers experienced several scares throughout the course of the game in front of a raucous Optus Stadium crowd. The Scorchers ultimately prevailed by a margin of five wickets to claim their fifth championship.

Before David Payne cut short his time in the middle, Josh Brown gave the Heat an explosive start by scoring 25 off 12 balls. After that, Sam Heazlett and Nathan McSweeney advanced the innings with a 79-run partnership off 61 balls for the second wicket.

After taking the valuable wicket of Heazlett, who blasted two fours and a six on his way to a 30-ball 34, Jason Behrendorff was able to split the pair apart. After scoring 41 runs off of 37 balls before Aaron Hardie took his wicket, McSweeney was unable to continue.
